My new tattoo... designed by *Wivere (hopefully she won;t kill me for including her screen name but she needs to be credited!!!)
It is an ouroboros which is found in many myths including one in which it encircles the tortoise which carries the elephants which hold the world up. Basically this symbolizes the cyclic Nature of the Universe: creation out of destruction, Life out of Death. The ouroboros eats its own tail to sustain its life, in an eternal cycle of renewal. Alchemically, the ouroboros is also used as a purifying glyph. |
